Well, we finally made it to Arkansas to visit family while we looked for a place to live and work. It's been nice to be so close to family that we haven't seen for a few years. We visit with my sister and brother nearly every week, we get to see my Grandma a couple of times a month, and we really enjoyed getting to know my Aunt & Uncle better. They were very gracious hosts while we stayed with them, which we really appreciated.
We found a nice 3 bedroom house in Arkansas that's close enough for school and close to family. It's in a nice neighborhood that's peaceful and restive after the noisy neighborhoods in Utah with neighbors who would party all hours of the night. Our church here is so friendly, we've had lots of people stop by to welcome us into the neighborhood bringing all sorts of goodies with them. I've been asked to substitute teach Celeste's primary (children's) class and to substitute as the chorister in Relief Society (the women's group in our church here). I definately wont get to sit idle here! Less than a week after we moved into our new home half of us came down with a vicious flu bug, including little Aislinn. It clung to her for over a week. But we're finally all doing well.
Matthew found work at a local nursing home working in the kitchen and being a dietary aide. We are extremely grateful for the blessing to be able to financially support ourselves.
I'll be starting the children homeschooling in September as planned before we left Utah. We are across the street from 2 elementary schools and after one look at their playgrounds the kids begged to be able to attend there, but we had decided and settled on it before we moved and I am determined to stick to it. I'm on the look out for materials so if anyone has recommendations I'd love to hear them!
Aislinn is a year old now and almost walking. She can take a step or two on her own but mostly just clings to everything and walks around it. She'll hold someone's hand and take off with them in tow to hold her up as she cruises the house. She has 5 teeth now and has decided to become a very finnicky eater. Even foods that she normally loves ends up on the floor.
She is very talkative and will fold her arms when we pray, sing when we sing, and imitates us in almost anything she can. She'll "dance" when she hears music that she likes. She's decided to be Miss Independence and insists on feeding herself with her spoon but then I am not allowed to help her with it and when she realizes she's not getting any food from it, she throws it onto the floor. Then she mimics me and will point and say "no!"
She's a naturally obedient child who comes when I call her, listens much of the time when I tell her "no-no", and if I ask her for something in her hand or mouth she'll give it up, even if I don't ask her for it she'll hand it to me first chance she gets. She really enjoys watching her big brother and sister play and tries to play with them whenever she can. She tries to throw the ball for the dog who has finally learned to be more gentle with the baby. She has a cute little ground level rocking horse that she climbs onto and rocks herself. She also tries to put lids on things, and put shapes into a container or things into something she knows it goes into.
All in all she's a very busy child who brings us alot of smiles and joy.
