The other day I was paying Corbin his weekly allowance money. Aislinn, observing this exchange, decided that she wanted some money as well. She came and stood next to me with her arm outstretched wanting some of whatever her big brother was receiving as well. She didn't know what he was getting or why, but she wanted in on it! She was too cute to refuse so I found some pennies and proceeded to give her $.10. But she didn't have anything to put it in. Celeste no longer uses her piggy bank as she has a wallet for her money, so she kindly offered her bank for Aislinn's use.
I showed her how to put her coins in the top and helped her count them one-at-a-time. She enjoyed that most of all naturally so we had to empty them out and do it a couple more times. She decided she didn't like the plug in the underside of her bank though and kept pulling it out. I think she eventually threw it in the trash because I have since been unable to find it anywhere. It hindered getting the money out too much I guess.
Whenever Aislinn finds a penny or we find one laying around, we make sure she puts it in her piggy bank. She's gotten quite a stash!
Periodically she brings me her "pig" and demands that I help her get her money out and help her count it back in. She counts "two, three, four, five" with me, sometimes counting the numbers out of order on her own. She even carries this around the house with her and sometimes gets into bed with it. She really likes her piggy bank!
Normally the kids get their allowance money when I go to the store, I get cash back at the debit machine and then they sort out the change so that it's easier to pay tithing on Sunday. Aislinn always holds out her hand from the shopping cart for her share, making certain not to be left out!
I guess it's okay to start them young on the concept of earning money and keeping track of it right? Like at the tender age of 1 yr old? After all, she DOES help put away toys and trash for me when asked......
