Today was the first day of school for Corbin and Celeste. Corbin is the big 9 yrs old and in 4th Grade. Celeste is 6 and in 1st!. I can't believe my big kids have gotten so big! It's so quiet around here with them gone. I know I'm really going to miss them. Last night I had them lay out their clothes for today so they'd know what to wear, and pack their lunches. Celeste made turkey & cheese, with a cup of applesauce and some chips. I gave her money for milk since I only had one drink bottle that would fit and Corbin already had it. Corbin packed himself a pb&j with a left over strawberry blintz, some chips, and a bottle of juice. They were really excited. Celeste, who has just recently learned to tie her shoes, assured me that if there are any kids in her class who don't know how to tie their own shoes, she can tie it for them and even teach them how to do it themselves
This morning Corbin was ready to go and had no qualms about going back to school. He's been at this for years now and knows what to do. Celeste expressed some anxiety as we were walking there, because she didn't know who her teacher was or who was going to be in her class and this was all a new step in her life. When I discovered that she hadn't changed her shirt after spilling Malt-o-Meal on it, she burst into tears. I had to quickly reassure her before she had a break down. My dear husband and their wonderful father gave them each a blessing before school to start out the school year. Corbin enjoyed his father's blessing so much that he wanted another one.
We walked first to the office and found the lists of teachers with the children's names on them. Corbin is in Mrs. Bakers' class, and Celeste is in Mrs. Child's. Then we walked outside around the building till we found where Corbin lines up after recess. When the bell rang we walked inside with him to find his class room, then hugs & kisses and off he went to be a 4th grader.
Then we walked to Celeste's new classroom and stood in line outside the teacher's door. We discovered that her friend Aubrey from her Kindergarten class was on the name list and also in her class. That made her feel a little less nervous I think. I found out where Celeste will be lining up in the morning for school out on the playground, signed up for SEP conference ( around here that's what they call parent-teacher conference. No clue what the SEP stands for....) and headed home with baby Aislinn in tow snuggled against me fast asleep in her carrier.
As soon as I got home, I finished putting my face on, and quickly fed Aislinn before heading to the doctor's office for her 2-month check up. She was good as can be for the whole thing, even with the doctor squeezing, prodding, and thoroughly examining her, which she found not to be to her liking. Then we waited patiently for the nurse to come in with the immunizations. By time the nurse arrived ( she had gotten busy and forgotten so I had to go remind her), little Aislinn was again happily asleep. She had to have 3 shots in her legs today and 1 oral immunization which is new to me. I felt so horrible to see her crying as they poked her little chubby legs. The poor thing. It always makes me feel like an awful mean mommy. There's not much though that a good snuggle and nursing can't fix so she soon forgave me and went back to sleep.
